Flatland is an abstract novel written by Edwin A. Abbotts. It is a fictional story written in Victorian times to try and explain the concept of dimensions. The story is broken into two parts. The first is a history of Flatland, which is smaller and sits infront of the second part. The second part is the story. Each character is given its own grid and typesetting to give the page more than one voice. The play with the hierarchy represents the social structure that is so important in the book.
